the end of a magical journey

Hey guys, I hope you've been fine! I finally found the time to write about the last update of my Traveling Doll adventure.

First of all, let me show you the wonderful journey of my doll, Alithia.

Here she is on my desk, ready to fly to Martha's home:

Martha painted the most beautiful face and gave Alithia a gorgeous pair of Mary Jane shoes

She then passed Alithia on to Tracey-anne, who created a gorgeous dress, jacket and fascinator hat!

Alithia's final stop was Leandra's home. Leandra created Alithia's hair and completed her regal look!

With the blessings of her three 'god-mothers', Alithia arrived in Greece on a beautiful sunny day. When I
opened the package I was amazed by all the amazing work done by Martha, Tracey-anne and Leandra!

Of course, Alithia didn't arrive on her own. She was accompanied by her faerie prince, Anathon, who was sculpted by Martha.

Here he is before he flies from Martha's home to Tracey-anne:

Tracey-anne gave him beautiful faerie wings and a gorgeous shirt before she sent him to Leandra!

Leandra created his beautiful faerie hair, which was accented with tiny braids.

And this is how he arrived with Alithia:

I had already decided that I would create velvet trousers for Anathon, but I thought that there was something missing. Thankfully, Anathon inspired me by telling me that he wanted to travel the world and have lots of adventures, so I gave gim a pair of leather boots for his long and difficult journeys and a faerie amulet which would protect him from danger. He was finally ready to leave my home and fly to the places he had dreamed of. He gave Alithia a big kiss and the promise that they would meet again in the future and he set off for his big adventure!

And so, this is the end of a wonderful dollmaking journey.

I would like to thank Martha, Tracey-anne and Leandra for their contribution and beautiful work! It was a magical experience and I feel so happy to have been part of the Traveling Doll Project and the 'Dolled Up' team!

I hope you enjoyed following my updates as much as I enjoyed this experience! I can't wait for next year's TAD Project!

Thank you for visiting and stay tuned for more dollmaking journeys!

off we go!

Hey everyone! Here I am, as promised, to show you my contribution to the traveling dolls I received from Leandra and Tracey-Anne.

As I wrote in my last post, I had in mind what I'd do with Lean's doll, but it seems like the doll had something in mind as well! I don't know if this happens to you, but sometimes I end up with a completely kind of doll from the one I originally had in mind. It's as if the doll has a mind of its own and directs my hand what to do!

Anyway, I was planning on giving a steampunk make over to Lean's doll, but I ended making a pirate wench with steampunk and burlesque elements.

Here is a pic of the doll while deciding on the details:

And here's the finished doll:

I hope you like her, but most of all I hope Lean likes her!

Now let's move on to Tracey-Anne's dolls. Here is a pic of them as soon as I opened the box the day they arrived:

Lean did a fantastic job painting them so as to represent the sun and moon! I decided to enhance this particular look with brightly colored hair.

Here they are with their new hairstyles:

Tracey-Ann, I hope you like them both!

The dolls are ready for their trip to the US. I can't wait to see what details Martha will add!

Thank you for visiting and don't forget to check back for more updates on the Traveling Doll Project!

Lean's doll is here!

Hurray! I'm so excited today because I received the first Traveling Project doll I'll be working on! It's a to-die-for cat lady made by Leandra.

Here she is resting in her box, waiting for her first make over.

I have in mind what her make over will include, but I won't reveal anything yet!

Stay tuned for progress pictures!

and so the journey begins...

Alrighty, I finally got the time to upload the pics of my doll for the Traveling Doll Project. I decided to make a complete doll but leave the rest of the details to my teammates. Sooooo, drumroll please, here she is

As you can see it's a poseable doll. Don't pay attention to the crappy way I've sewn the fabric, it will be covered by the clothes one of my talented teammates will create. I make folk art dolls that are not very detailed as far as facial sculpting is concerned, so I can't wait to see what my teammates will do with her! It is a really interesting project as each dollmaker has her own style, I believe the results will be wonderful!

And here she is in her box, ready to fly to her new temporary home

Please excuse my messy worktable!

I posted her this morning, she is on her way to the US. I'm sure Martha will take good care of her!

Thank you for visiting my blog! I will be posting about this exciting project quite often, make sure you don't miss my updates!

ADO Traveling Doll Project 2013

Hey everyone!

I'm really excited to be part of the Traveling Doll Project held by ADO. In case you've never heard of it, Art Dolls Only (ADO) is a group of dollmakers from all over the world. Apart from the monthly themed challenges in which everyone can participate, every year ADO organises the Traveling Doll Project, exclusively for its members. This project involves starting a doll and passing it on to other dollmakers to add to it with their own ideas and style. The doll returns to its original owner as a complete doll with contributions from other artists.

There are three teams in this year's Traveling Doll Project.

My team's name is Dolled Up and my teammates are

Ayala Art (Martha) from the US
Tracey-Ann McCartney from the UK

Here are the other two teams

TEAM 2

Constanza Orozco Tovar from the US
Lulu Moonwood Murakami from the US
Mary Esther Ward from the US

TEAM 3

Sandie Nowell  from the US
 Alana Garmonsway from New Zealand
Wilma Simmons from Australia
LuLus Apple  from the US

So stay tuned as I will be posting in progress photos of the dolls and follow me in this wonderful dollmaking journey!

Featured PFATT Marketplace Artist for January

Hello dear friends and Happy New Year! I hope 2013 is an awesome year from every aspect and the year when you will see all your dreams fulfilled!

It sure started in the best possible way for me as I'm the featured artist for the month of January at PFATT Marketplace !

This month I'm offering two dolls exclusively made for PFATT Marketplace. They are part of my Petite Whimsies collection and are called "Love Balloons". As you have probably already guessed they are Valentine themed; a sweet boy and girl holding a red heart balloon each and celebrating love!

I hope you like them! They could make the perfect gift for the person who holds the most special place in your heart or maybe you could use them as a cake topper for your big day!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog!
